The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Baltistan Region has officially commenced operations

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Baltistan Region has officially commenced operations. On August 4th, 2025, Syed Munawar Hussain Mosvi, Deputy Director, Mr. Sheraz Ali, Assistant Director, Mishal Zehra, Scientific Officer assumed their duties, marking the beginning of the office's functional activities. This regional office will be responsible for enforcing the Gilgit-Baltistan Environmental Protection Act 2014 and its subsequent rules and regulations in Batistan Region.
A joint field visit was conducted by the GB-EPA team in collaboration with the Economic Transformation Initiative (ETI) the project proponent, along with representatives from the Forest, Agriculture, and Planning & Development department.

On August 5th, 2025, a joint field visit was conducted by the GB-EPA team in collaboration with the Economic Transformation Initiative (ETI) the project proponent, along with representatives from the Forest, Agriculture, and Planning & Development department. The purpose of the visit was to assess the potential environmental impacts of the proposed 9.5 km Farm to Market Road (FMR) project in Gahso and to recommend suitable mitigation measures. The planned road alignment traverses rugged rocky terrain and passes near the ecologically sensitive Gahso Lake, which serves as a natural habitat for trout fish. A comprehensive field report will be shared in due course.

The Enforcement Team from GB-EPA Baltistan Region and District Administration Skardu conducted a joint field visit to Zhok Village and Upper Kachura, to enforce the Gilgit-Baltistan ESCA Rules 2024. The inspection revealed that all tourist facilities in the area were operating without environmental approvals.
